横幅=nofollowhref =http://www.phpedit.net/products/PHPEdit/banners.phptarget =_ blank> http://www.phpedit.net/products/PHPEdit/banners.php

NuSphere,Zend,Komodo ......

Hi all,

In a couple of weeks I get my big break. I joined my present employer (an
ISP) in a real bottom-rung-of-the-ladder customer support job several months
ago, without even getting an interview for the PHP coding job for which I''d
applied (it was all I could get at the time, I''d just left my previous, very
different job under unpleasant circumstances). In my spare time since then
I''ve brushed up my coding skills and demonstrated my ability to my employer,
and so in February I''ll be starting as an application developer.

Here''s the problem: It''s a Linux-only development platform - that is to say,
the computer I''ll be using at work must be Linux, they don''t buy licenses
for M$.

And I''ve gotten where I am in terms of coding by relying a bit too much on
IDEs like PHPEdit which I''ve used for years (I even designed one of the
banners on http://www.phpedit.net/products/PHPEdit/banners.php - it''s the
Flash one with the bike ;-) . So I''ve been spoiled with code completion,
integrated help, code insight etc.... Now don''t get me wrong - I can do the
job, and do it well. Code I''ve written in my spare time in my current job
is already in constant, critical use in the company. But I have relied a
bit too much on this particular IDE...

So I''ve searched for days for something comparable for Linux. It has to be
freeware (company rule) which excludes NuSphere, Zend, Komodo...

I''m aware of course that this thread could trigger a "real men use vi"
attitude, and it may well be that I do need to do just that, but before I
give up, I''m asking around to see what people think.

At the moment a combination of Eclipse plus the phpeclipse plugin is leading
the way for me.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks a lot,

Matt Saunders

In my eyes it is silly for a company to force there coders to use
whatever OS. I think they''ll be more productive when they can use the
tools they want.

Have you already tried running phpedit with wine ?
