I have some html which consists of a paragraph tag and some text inside

What I want to do is to maintain the whitespace in this paragrpah so

The HTML 4.01 specification says that excess whitespace is condensed.
Only with the use of the PRE element or repeated (and tedious) use of
coupled with ordinary spaces will whitespace be preserved.
I actually find this somewhat annoying since I am very used to two
spaces after the period at the end of a sentence.
