Hello everyone,

I would like to ask a very very beginner question..I''m a graphics designer/3d animator who works in a major TV channel, without any programming exprience.
I want to learn C++. But i don''t know where to start.
I have an old Visual Studio 6. Would it be usefull ?
I''ve a good C++ book which i think can be usefull.
Anyway, i just need some ideas and someone to show me the way.

First, use Visual Studio.NET 2005 Express. It''s a free download and fixes bugs in VC++ 6.0.

Second, use any C++ textbook you cna read. Be sure it is published after Sept 1998. That''s the date ANSI C++ was realeased. Older books have pre-ANSI C++ and there have been lots of changes since then.

I like C++ Primer Plus 5th Edition by Stephen Prata.

Third, look to your local colleges for evening classes in C++. A class is a good way to get started. You might try Intrernet courses if you are the sort of person who can work alone.

My first book I used was SAM''s Teach Yourself C++ in 21 days. It was great for beginner programmers.

Also, practice, practice, and practice. If you can''t attend classes, I would suggest looking at programming course''s homepages to get more excersices. Another choice is to create your own problems.

Another source for programs and examples is this forum. A lot of different kinds of problems show up here. Look around until you find something that looks interesting and understandable.

Kreagan is right about the experience side of programming. There is a big difference between reading about programs and writing them. Once you get comfortable with the process its amazing what can be done.
