Recently i have had problems connecting to any kind of network, including wireless network and dialup internet. I am able to detect and connect to the network, but after doing this i cant actually access anything on the network. I dont seem to be getting an IP address assigned to my pc. I have asked some of my friends who know more about computers than me, but they are unable to find the problem.

Any ideas?

Do you have any service pack installed in your machine at the moment? I would suggest you to upgrade to WIndows XP Service Pack 2. Kindly refer to below attached link to down Windows XP Service Pack 2, hope it help. Good luck & Take care.
