OCR for containers is different than OCR for vehicle license plates because it often relies on identifying that it is a vehicle first, then looks for the license plate.

OCR for documents often relies on a 180 degree angle looking at a flat surface. OCR for items like shipping containers might be a closer match. I'm looking for code like that used for shipping containers at a reasonable cost that can be patented.

What I have tried:

Looked at Tesseract and several Vehicle license plate programs but learned they will not work in this application.

I don't think that will work: if it's already in the public domain, I don't think you can patent it - and if you didn't write it, the real author could almost certainly demolish your patent at a stroke if you did manage to get one.

If you want patentable products, you need to develop them yourself, not use somebody elses.
