My favorite book specifically on Windows Forms is by Matthew MacDonald, "Pro .NET 2.0 Windows Forms and Custom Controls in C#" (Apress, 2005): [^].

Even though it is an older book, I think the author's explanation of the WinForms controls is excellent, and the content on creating custom controls, and implementing advanced design-time features for custom controls, like Smart Tags, is the best I've ever read.
