I am trying to clean up our Azure subscription in preparation for a new project. I am the global administrator for the subscription.

In the past a couple of directories were created and never used. I have tried to delete them and and be unable to do so. In both cases. I get a message that I should Delete  all App registrations, even though there are no app registrations associated with either directory:

Can you check App registrations under the corresponding Azure Active directories for any application present over there, if so could you check that registered application and delete them, once you delete the applications from the unnecessary Azure active directories, you should be able to delete the directories.

Also did you tried to delete the directories as you deleted the App's? Give a bit time and then try to delete,then it should allow you to delete them. Also try to sign-out and sign-in back to make sure all the changes are reflected.
