Right, so why doesn't Azure maintain the same RDP connection whenever my VPS restarts despite my setting my Public IP address to static. I've never had this issue before, so why has it all of a sudden decided that I have to re-download the RDP file in order to re-access my VPS?

Hi Todd, 

Setting a Public IP static and session maintenance are two different things. 

If you set an IP address static means the IP address will not check when you de-allocate the VM. You don't need to re-download the RDP file each time, instead just open your RDP and type in your IP address and hit connect. 

There can be multiple reason as why your RDP dropped. It can be because of your network or some reboot happened in VM.
