I am trying to install Sql server management studio on my windows 10 desktop. Overall process of installation stuck at Visual Studio 2015 shell isolated installing process. While analyzing this issue, I have found vs_shell.exe process has been locked by dwm.exe in Analyze wait chain. I kept my pc running for 10 hours. but still no progress. If I kill this process installation stops. Require help.

Dwm.exe is a desktop windows manager and is responsible for the graphical effects. Begin with a clean boot and see if a third-party app is causing this, since vs_shell.exe process has been locked by dwm.exe in Analyze wait chain. Please refer to here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/kb/929135

Meanwhile, you could also use the command sfc /scannow to see if you have any corrupted system files and run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if there are any virus infection on your computer.
