and reached out to azure support on twitter about an issue i am facing with a server 2016 VM in azure with a static IP and no load balancer.

According to the article i am scenario 1, but when i try and connect my IP to a security device and look for traffic from the Public IP I don't see anything but i do see another IP from within azure, this appears to be the egress point of my VM.

Is this expected behavior and missing something? is there a way that i can quickly identify this egress point?

something of note is that when i go to a site like whatismyip.com it shows my expected IP address. which confuses me further.

Hi, 

如果您的虚拟机具有实例级公共IP地址，则VM将只使用与其关联的公共IP来访问互联网。

If you have a VM with Instance Level Public IP address, then VM will only use the Public IP which is associated with it to reach Internet.

如果您在目的地看到不同的IP，请确保您不要Azure和目标之间没有任何NAT设备。如果您尝试从Azure VM中查找出站IP，则通过查看WhatsmyIP进行的测试是正确的，
显示正确的IP地址。 

If you are seeing different IP in the destination, make sure you don't have any NAT device in between Azure and the destination. If you are trying to find the outbound IP from Azure VM, the test which you did is correct by looking into WhatsmyIP and it does, shows the correct IP address.
