Recently I came across a request from one of my client to save a site as template along with permissions assigned on source site.

As per my research this is not possible with OOB features, however it could be achieved through some developer approach like "WebProvision Method" & "Custom Coded Workflow through visual studio"

But still I would like to know if there is any alternate approach to get this done with Infra approach.

Save Site As Template is available as an option on SharePoint Designer but not for Publishing sites. You cannot save a publishing site as a template.

Programmatically:
