I need to use a single Azure Automation account to manage DSC configurations for several clients. For some of the asset variables, the values will differ from one client to the next. I do not see an option for variable groups, so how can I manage to have different values for one or more variables based on the client?

This is not exposed in the UI but you can parametize your configurations and compile different node configurations based on input. Small example is available here
