This is my first time posting. I searched and saw a lot of great info on negative slack, but not anything that addressed my specific issue.

I have a task that is showing -70d of total slack. the task does not have a successor.

I have an artificially early Deadline on the task I am trying to locate the critical path to.

The project end date is 2 years after the end date of the task with negative slack.

I am lost as to why a task would have negative slack if it is not driving any successors?

Negative Total Slack is caused by a task's Finish date slipping past its Deadline date or a hard constraint date (such as a Finish No Later Than constraint).  So, in your case, I would say the missed Deadline date is the cause.  Hope this helps.
