I am using Visual C++ to automate Word. When using Shapes.AddPicture function to insert pictures into the document, sometimes I will get ""The graphics filter was unable to convert this file.". After analyzing the problem, I find it happens because I try to add a picture with unsupported format. Therefore, I just wonder whether there is an official document indicate which formats are supported by Shapes.AddPicture function? I belive the popular ones, such as .BMP, JPEG, .GIF, .PNG should be supported. And what’s more?

Otherwise, I would suggest that you look at the Insert Picture dialog in Word and look at the list of file extensions in the file type dropdown. e.g. in Word 365 for Windows I see this:

However, if had to be thorough I would probably want to do some  extra checks, at least for graphics types I thought I might use, e.g.
