I have my MSDN account through my employer, and it's attached to an email address that no longer exists (company was bought).  Is it possible to transfer my employer-provided subscriptions (account I'm posting this from) to my current Live account that I use for everything else?

There are two different email address with MSDN, the address that shows up on the My Account page, and the email address associated to the Microsoft Account (formerly called Live IDs). 

You can easily change which Microsoft Account you use for a given subscription, and you can do this from the My Account page by clicking Change Microsoft Account on the My Account page.  See our help page here for more info: https://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/dd365189.aspx.  

If you want to change the email address on the My Account page, it depends on the type of Subscription.  If you have a VL subscription (Subscriber ID starts with 'MVL..') then your VL admin will need to do that.  If its retail, you can contact the MSDN Customer Service Center for help:  https://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/aa948875.aspx
