Hi everyone i am a student and i am currently making a project for my college which will optimize the system performance and other settings (like tuning softwares and tweaking softwares)

the problem is that i want to know that which dll is responsible for blocking the screen when we apply settings under windows xp.

i mean when we apply settings in windows xp then what happens is the screen gets grayed out and the settings are applied at that time no keys work , whole screen is blocked and the settings comes in effect without restarting the system.

can any one tell me which dll does this and what is the entry point to that dll

or simply tell me how can we apply a setting without restarting the system or without logging off

What you want to do is kill the Explorer.exe process and restart it.  this will reload the registry

Here is a small batch file that will do it for you:

echo ### Starting Explorer
start explorer.exe


You have to have the Kill.exe program on the machine.  You can get it from the Windows SDK
