I am developing a device that'll pair with a mobile app for controls, and the connection is planned to be over WiFi direct. Due to the splits between users on Android/iOS/Windows devices, I am looking for a way to create this connection with any of the three platforms.

I have seen Windows 10(and IoT Core) has WiFi Direct APIs, and have heard tales that Project Rome is designed to be cross platform WiFi Direct, but does this hold up to any degree, is cross-platform integrated into the main APIs, or is a third party solution desirable here(i.e. create my own cross-platform WiFi Direct implementation, similar to FireChat)?
