Binary entity properties (Image type is a type of Binary type) are treated just like the other scalar value properties on entities. So when a query returns a collection of entities, and the entity type has Image-typed properties, the images are download from the server to the client with the rest of the property values. An idea we had was to make Binary type properties of entities loadable on demand (just like computed properties) so that the payload downloaded to the client would be minimal, but this feature did not make the cut.

Very large images will affect the performance of the application when loading the image or saving the image. This is true for normal Silverlight applications. For images that decompress into large amounts of memory, Silverlight will take a while to load it and the UI will be frozen during that time. Our guidance is that you don't try to load extremely large images.

I'm not sure why your search screen is not carrying image data. It could possibly be that you happen to limit the result set of the search to only have entities that do not have images.
