I have a Windows 7 Standard footprint installed which is running principally. Nervertheless I am not able to install a device driver for the graphics adapter manually. In control panel/systems/device manager I identified "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" as the installed graphics device. I need to install ATI Radeon X1270 drivers. After a right click I chose "Update Driver Software/Browse my computer for driver software/Let me pick from a list ... /Have Disk ...". I selected the directory including the *.inf and see in the "Model"-Window now "ATI Radeon X1270".

The problem is, that I can hit the "Next" button as often as I want and nothing happens. The same behavior is seen with other manual driver installations. i can leave the open "Update Driver Software" window with "Cancel" only.
