Hi Eric,
LS was designed with more the departmental applications in mind, written by "Power Users", more so than "Developers" per se. I've heard it described as a program for use by "developers", with a small "d", as opposed to "Developers", wiith a capital "D".
MS have been quite surprised at the level of interest from professional developers who have recognised that LS could help alleviate a lot of the repetetive plumbing code that so often gets written in every commercial app of a reasonable size.
There are certain things that will be missing from V1, the most obvious of which is ANY kind of reporting. MS are currently relying on 3rd part vendors to provide "missing" pieces. This is not being accepted as well as MS would have hoped. Many of us feel it's a MAJOR ommission.
That said, extensability is a key area that the designers of LS have kept firmly in their mind & in LS's architecture. However, it's not the easiset of tasks to create control/screen/theme/shell extensions, even though it's "theoretically" possible. All the extensability points are there, baked in, so to speak.
I think (& certainly hope) that LS will contine to grow & support more & more complex scenarios, but for the moment the "simpler" what you want to achieve, the "easier" you will find yourself being able to *rapidly* put your app together using LS.
More complex situation *can* be catered for, but it's currently much harder to "cajole" LS into being able to do it for you.
