Why not just ask the user for it? Aside from that, I wouldn't want an application trying to figure out my physical address without my consent. The IP address can be used to get something close, like a metro area or city, but even then its off pretty far (my IP gives me a location in a city 50 miles away).

I guess I would ask why you need to do it without user intervention? Its not something that typically changes, so you ask once and thats it.
