When submitting an application to the store the system automatically resolves the version from the package file the documentation says in the ("Upload and describe your package") section.
But how can version 1.2.0.2 become 2014.314.2111.3322 ???? I would have expected the package version to match my application version?

This will happen when in the Create App Packages under "Generate app bundle" you have selected "if needed".

It should be set to Never.

Now since you have not done this you can edit this in the Package.appxmanifest. There you will be able to change it to "Never"
