I began my website about 12 years ago with Front Page, and then went to Expression Web 2.  Recently my webhost discontinued Front Page extensions, leaving me with many problems.  One of which as an error message "Server sent responses which Sharepoint Designer could not parse."  So I assume that Sharepoint was dumped along with FP extensions.  Right? 

So what do I need to do to use Expression Web 2 to edit my website?  Is ExpWeb2 not able to work without FP extensions?  Is there some fix for this?  a download?   Do I need to get the latest version of ExpWeb?

A sharepoint warning in Ew is actually a warning about extensions.
You will need to publish using the ftp:// address and you'll need to get the correct ftp:// address from your host.

Also you will need to replave any features that used extensions, such as hit counters, html forms, shared borders with newer web technologies.
