I have a 2 fold problem. I am developing the system on my target machine. I have a full version of XP sp3 loaded and XPe Sp2 (loaded XPe SP3 but it still only shows SP2 in runtime). I have a second hard drive as my image container. I can develope the image using the settings for D drive, create the image in a folder on C drive, copy the files over then dual boot on start up to partition 2 (D drive) and it works fine. Here is my 2 issues.

Issue 1: When I select D drive as target for build, it cannot build since it will not delete the current system information folder on that drive (D). It fails every time unless I use a different folder other than root on D drive. I cannot remove the system information store directory.

Issue 2: I format my second drive. Rebuild the image with settings for C drive. Copy all files over to the second drive. Check the boot.ini for correct pointing of OS. reboot target machine with just my second drive attached (making it C drive). The screen just sits there with a cursor after the post bios, no errors but also no boot. I have tried marking the drive active and also have tried not marking the drive, but both act the same.

I have used NTe for many years but, yes, I am a newbie to XPe. I have read and studied Mr. Liming's book ( a courteous plug ), but the "format the disk is all you need" doesn't seem to work. I'm afraid the system information store is getting in the way since I have seen this when a NTe disk is seen by XP or 2000 and it writes a system information directory to that image. It acts the same way as in not doing anything when asked to boot. Any help on this? Everything else seems to be ok except the boot of the second drive when placed in system by itself. 1. TD wants to delete everything in the build folder. The System Volume informaiton at the root of a drive cannot be deleted so you get the error. In practice you don't want to build to the root of a drive. Instead build to a folder \Windows Embedded Images and then copy the image to the target drive.

2. If you are removing the develoment C drive so the image D drive becomes the C drive for XPe image, then don't change anything in the image to reference D. Copy the whole image including the boot.ini to the D drive.
