Its lack of direction and guidance which makes us to rot for years... Here i am seeking for one such help. Three months back have searched the right programming language to learn and ended up with python, now me and my friend have grasped python. We both also know the OOPs concepts. All we want is to improve our skills efficiently, we got loads of time with us to spare for studying. Me who wants to shine in information security, what will be the right direction to move on after this. And my friend who wants to move in Application development(mobile platform/open source software development), what will be the right direction to move on from here.(Please avoid telling go for android, a better explanation will help many).

Some Experts, who has nice experience, spare some time and give us the complete sketch, and path, will be useful for many, because lots of time am getting misleading explanations from non-experienced person. Am not asking you to give the page number of a book with exact line number but at least the book name, anything, that helps me to be on track.

You should be prepared for really hard work rather then shining. (Is there such thing?) :-)

One line in your post looks really troublesome. You are not asking for a page number, but your statement looks like you assume that a page or two can give you a pretty good idea. No. You are going to read many books, paying extremely close attention for most of the pages, and you are going to read between lines more than in lines.

Now, in contrast to the above, I'm going to suggest some really light reading, to get some courage and inspiration.

Even though I cannot agree with this guy on many aspects, his thoughts on personal values of engineers and other players for the teams and personal development, careers, approaches to the problems, organization, values of the work are and even the life are often very deep and interesting.
