You will need your content access account to have read permissions to the site being crawled. Assuming that is already done, then check and make sure you are using NTLM as your authentication provider (on the site being crawled) instead of kerberos.

Central Admin > Application Management > Authentication Providers > Select NTLM, clear Basic Auth.
