I'm using Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 on client and TFS 2012 server and XAML builds.

What I'm experiencing is that when I go into a build definition to select the template to use and press the new button to add a new template I'm presented with a dialog that seems like it thinks I want to pick the XAML template from a git project.

I'm able to select the team project, but it then asks for repository name and branch which both are blank dropdown lists (not strange since this is a 2012 server and has no git support). If I'm trying to just select a "path in repository" it complains that the selected file is not in a git repository.

I've verified that the source control plugin is set to TFVC.

Is this a known issue? Is there any workaround to get a new workflow into the list of available workflows? (checking it into the "BuildProcessTemplates" folder is not enough...
