As per my comment, you need to give some serious thought to what it is that you are trying to do. What you are not going to do is change your code at installation to increment a counter. What "counter"? Where is this counter? What would be the point anyway? Would that magically update all of your installations with the current count? Are you going to save this count to a file that the user can simply delete? Maybe save it to the registry where the user can simply delete it? Have your installation use a webservice to save the count to a database? What happens if the user does not have an internet connection?

The only reason you would be doing this at all is to try and implement some sort of limited installation licensing scheme or copy protection. You would be much better off putting your effort into making your software into something that people would pay for instead of trying to figure out a licensing scheme that is going to be doomed to failure from the start. Programs from big name companies are cracked the day they are released and they have the money and resources to come up with some really good efforts at piracy prevention. It does not work for them so how would you suppose that it would work out for you?

I have never heard of "micro" so I do not personally know why "someone" would tell you to use it or if it would do whatever it is that you want.
