I am trying to convert my application from ASP.Net 2 to ASP.Net 3.5.  I have read that the PDF size of a report created in 3.5 is much smaller than in 2.0 but in my tests, my PDF is still huge.  Is there more I need to do besides converting my project over to 3.5?

did you also replace the ReportViewer control with the updated Version 9 (VS 2008) ReportViewer control in your application?   What was the original PDF size, and what size do you see now?
