I am developing an application in C# which should be able to send/receive SMS. I did a lot of research and found that we can achieve it using the GSM modem. But if I use a GSM modem to sent SMS, then I need to write specific code for each modem I use. Is there any way by which I can write a common or generic code which can send SMS from all modems connected to PC? I know if we use SMS gateway the code will be generic, but can I achieve the same for modems?

Also, in many sample codes I saw that for sending the SMS, the port number where the modem is connected is to be used. Is it possible to find out that port number dynamically? As my application will be integrated with web based project it is not possible to provide the port number where the modem is connected.
