I have a human resource and a machine resource. both have a 8 hour availability per day.

I assign the resource to the tasks but then I receive the human resource working 14 hours in one day as 2 tasks are overlapping.

I thought levelling would correct this but it does like nothing in my project.

I also wanted to add a machine resource as we only have one machine performing a certain task , so I add the human resource and the machine resource to the task. Again I get overlaps.

How would one do this? I am new to MS projects but I believe this is a very simple task and I don't want to do this manually by putting one task as predecessor of the other task, I want it to be planned by resource availability.

As i understand your issue. Check the link between the task if it is firstly unlink them and make the resources separately do not indent any of them if you want to have them separately otherwise they mostly add the duration.
