        Let us know what is the use of task update and time sheet update ,how these are inter linked and what is the impact of it being in our project

Hi ABzzzz--

In earlier version of project server 2003, we used to have only Task, there was no concept of timesheet but timesheet was introduced in Project server 2007 as a special feature where organization wants maintain the timesheets but doesn't want to update the project process using timesheet. A project Manger can manually update the project process.

When a project is published & team member creates a timesheet, based on the cureent tasks assigned to resource, timesheet data gets populated. It's a snapshot of the data which is captured on timesheet creation. project server maintains the data for timesheet & tasks in different tables. Now, if a project manager changes the project plan & again publish the same, Resource can view the new data in My Tasks but since timesheet is already created, Resource will not see the new data, as a process, she/he can delete the timesheet & recreate the same, that will populate the new data in timesheet. My task view will always be in sync with MS project tasks.

So based on organization needs , we can choose to use either timesheet or Task .

In PS2007, there was a addin which use to import the timesheet to my tasks, in PS2010 we have a feature of Single entry mode where team member need not to import the timesheets to tasks, system will take care of it.
