I am having a heck of a time with some MKV files I have.  Here's the situation.

I've also seen this go the other way where the video shows to long however when you encode it you end up with that extra length but it ends up as a black screen to the end.  Odd part is I know if I reencode this again it may come out to that 2 hour 33 minute length from past experience.

Any idea what the heck is going on here?  Is the built in 264 codecs no good that are reading in the files?

As point of reference my system is Windows 7 Pro, and no additional codec, and Expression 4 Pro.  I built this workstation three days ago and have installed nothing else.  All the tools I use were zip files that just run so nothing else in registry or anything.

Hi Steve, Without getting access to the file in question, it might be a little hard to help you. But there's something that seems incorrect in your story: you say you're using a MKV file with DTS in it and that you don't have any 3rd party DShow codecs installed, but Encoder doesn't natively support MKV nor DTS natively, even on Windows 7, which would suggest you are using some other codecs to use that media file in Encoder. Note that they may have been installed by another application, like a media player, or DVD authoring tool you installed. We've seen this behavior before, and every time it was due to either the use of a bad codec or the media file was badly authored in relations to the frame timestamps (two things that are out of our control unfortunately). Could you please make enumerate the list of non-Microsoft codecs you see in the Tools->Options->Compatibility?
