I have an application that is deployed using click-once with auto update checking disabled. The deployment is published using VS2008.  The application uses the deployment API to perform a manual update check/update.

Each time the application starts it performs its own update check.  If an update is available, the application can choose not to update under certain circumstances.  If the application decided not to perform a manual update when an update was available, the next time the application is started an AUTO check/update is performed.
