Hi,

I have created a Windows 8.1 Store App and want to have the Sideload feature. Please let me know if the below steps are correct. 

1. During packaging the App I selected "sideloading" option.

2. Once the .appx is generated I uploaded the .appx to my Server (normal file server)

3. Bought a Sideloading Activation Key and Activated the Windows 8.1 Enterprise Tablet.

4. Launched IE in the Tablet and put the file path of the .appx

5. Download and installation happens automatically in the Tablet.

Please let me know if the above process is correct or I still need the complete package folder and the Windows PowerShell to install the downloaded .appx file in the Tablet, even after activating the device with Sideloading product key.

Please put some light on this.

In my opinion, SideLoad apps have some scenarios need to be considered before sideloading. Such as:

1. Sideload the app for a user or for all users? For sideloading the app for a user, you can simply use powershell command and package to install the app. For sideloading the app for all users, you can use DISM to provision a Windows Store app in an online Windows image for all users who share the computer.
2.  Do you actually need to use a sideloading product key?  There are some requirements for sideloading windows store apps, such as the device must be joined to the domain, and you must enable the policy setting "Allow all trusted apps to install." For devices are not always joined to the domain, you can enable sideloading for these additional scenarios by installing a sideloading product key on the devices.

It seems the above steps are used for sideloading for all users and the Tablet is not in the same domain. But in this situation, the process for sideloading is more complex than the above steps. Such as you should do some configurations on devices for sideloading requirements and group policies.

By using package folder and PowerShell to install is for sideloading the app for a user. If you need it or not depend on your requirements.
