A bit of background.  I have a large Visual Basic 6.0 program that I've written over the years.  I use it to maintain an Access data base from which I upload updates to my web sites.  Input comes from another application in the form of text files, and comes from web pages that are downloaded by the VB application and parsed.

if I want to move my VB6 application forward into something more current, what is the platform to use?  I want to keep as much of the current code base as possible.  Is VB.Net the step to take?

In the past, I have converted my VB 6 code to VB.Net. That seems the most direct and their are wizards to assist.
