I'm just now trying to learn about Blend and what's possible/not possible, and I had a question: Is it possible to create your own custom buttons in an application outside of Blend and import the buttons and their various states into Blend and use them that way? Or do all the different button states have to be created in Blend itself? I guess I'm trying to see if it's possible to have Blend substitute one bitmap/png/jpg for another to simulate a rollover state or a down state.

Hi,

you can use expression design and create a button and export it to xaml and use it in expression blend.

you can add a shape/image and you can convert it to button by using menu  Tools->Make Button...
