Using Resource Monitor, I've traced this issue to reading of local project PDB files. Hit a breakpoint - PDB files are read. Click on the callstack - PDB files are read. All in spite of the fact that VS claimed to have loaded the symbols when the debugging session started. Granted, this is a large project, but this issue was not present several releases of VS back. Looking for suggestions on how to clear this up.

Here is the blog that lists the almost every possibilities could cause the slow debugging.

and you mentioned the present release of VS, I guess you are using vs2015 update 3, right? As update 3 is the latest update of VS2015. And the latest of VS 2017 is 15.3.5.
