Hi, I'm, as said in the title, a french student, and it's my first time using SharePoint ever.

Basically, I work for my Engineering school (computer science) for two months right now as a part of my education, and they asked me to developp an intranet website for the school (only the base of the site, but at least find what we should do)

Since students from our school are already linked to a microsoft account with Office 365 on it, sharepoint seemed like the best platform to work on. I've already teste a lot of things and know the basics, but I still am not sure about why I should do.

My boss wants, in short, a site only for our students, teacher, workers and admin. The site will have a main page which will serve as Newsfeed and such. The school has two differents domains for workers/teacher and student (like [e-mail] for students and [e-mail] for workers and teachers) and has different activities (I'm in computer science, but there is management, electronics etc...). I'll pass on a lot of detail, but the most important one is to restrain access to some groups while giving them access to a "forum" type of communication depending on their group. I had two ideas that needs to be approved of by my boss (Either forum discussion or the Yammer app)

After working on SharePoint for a bit, I've found that communication website are the only one with a group management system with restrictions and stuff, and know how to do most stuff, mostly the details, that are asked but I still don't know how to use restrictions efficiently, as it seems like I need to restrain students to "read only" since else they would be able to modify some parts of the website, but that would also block them from uploading files wouldn't it? Can they also post threads and communicate in read-only?

I also have the issue with the two domains, I've read a little bit about it, but nothing concrete, since they don't have any link between them.

Hopefully I explain my issues well, sorry if I wrote something badly, I'm just a french student so it's still hard for me to use complicated english (also sorry if I posted at the wrong place or if I should have started a discussion instead of asking a question)

As for the permissions setting, you can set unique permission for special list/library. The two domain restriction, I have no good plan currently.
