I have a feeling that simply because I can't find any information is the answer itself. We've been doing some small scale performance testing in a Windows 2008 environment and need to move these tests into a production environment. Is there any statistics on how much resources perfmon uses when running a short term (5 minutes) scan? I imagine its minimal if any but need to back this up for management.

As you would already know, the resource usage of permon ( Any software tool ) obviously depends on what you make that tool do. It would depend on how many processes and counters in general you decide to monitor.

However as a general observation, i dont see perfmon using considerable resources. For ex. the average CPU usage doesnt exceed 15%.
