Initially Visual Studio SDK and Data Tools were not enabled. Adding each of them did not change the result, i.e. the error above still is shown when I try to open files of type .dtsx. It seems likely to me the files (i.e. .dtsx type) I need to open & evaluate were developed using older versions of Visual Studio.
