Hello, I'm trying to improve user personalization in my app by using accent colors in various places, but I'd like to show a darkened version of the user's Start Background.  Is this possible?  Google searches didn't turn up anything.  I know some users don't have Windows Phone 8.1, but this will get my app ready for the actual release.  Some of my users are WP 8.1 users, but most are 8.0.

Do you mean you want to show the background image that the user has selected for the start screen?

There is no API which gives the currently selected Start screen background... you would have to ask the user to select an image from their picture library.
