After upgrading SharePoint to 2016, we have started facing the issue with Google Chrome browser.

When I click the excel file of any document library, it opens in browser, which is not the case with Edge.

I tried changing the library setting "Open document in client application". However, still I don't see any changes in behaviour.

What is the version of your Google Chrome?

Try to test using another user. Also test in another machine.

Make sure if you have activated the "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default site collection" feature in Site settings.
