While compiling a Windows App C# project using VS IDE in Windows Server 2012 R2 environment, we are asked to get the developer license. But when we try to get the same, it's throwing an error as "We couldn't get your developer license for Windows Server 2012 R2".. Even after enabling desktop experience features we are getting the same error. Is it advisable to do the code development in Windows Server 2012 R2 machine?

Please have a look at the system requirement of VS 2015, and Windows Server 2012 R2 is the supported OS, which means you can develop on the windows server 2012 R2 using VS 2015 or VS 2013. Meanwhile, there have a tip that you need to confirm, on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 requires Update 2919355 (also available from Windows Update), make sure this update is installed and windows update is up-to-date, then check this issue again.

Refer to the error message, please have a try with the following to troubleshot:
1. Make sure the OS is activated successfully/legitimately
2. Login the computer with the administrator account and check the system date and time is correct, run the VS as administrator then go to Project-Store-Acquire Developer License.
3. If you used the proxy server, you should change to open internet to get the developer license.
4. Create a temporary account with administrator right and login, then test this issue
