So, in our organisation we delete the spaces in the 'Name' column to stop %20 showing up in the URL. We also make everything lower case but I'm not sure if that is needed?

I have been trying to find a way for the Name column to do this automatically as it takes up so much time for staff members. I have tried calculated fields, which was the closest I got to but I couldn't figure out how to make it link to the document. I have also tried workflows and adjusting the code is SharePoint Designer.
