Hi, we have set up a SharePoint site to act as a VDR for a project we have. It appears that when I invite someone external to my organisation (read only or Edit) they are required to register with the Microsoft account or set one up.

Hi Guy- that's expected behavior and I don't know of a way to get around it. You can share individual documents without the login requirement, but not for the entire site. See the following link for details:
