We have a library exceeding threshold limit.We have around 30 lakh of files.

Problem is that user wants the library to be sorted by Modified Date in ascending order.Once the sort is specified in modify view immediately threshold error pops out.

We don't have any indexed or metadata fields created.

Can anyone suggest a way to filter or search the list by modified date?

There are too many items in your library.

The List View Threshold specifies the maximum number of list or library items that a database operation, such as a query, can process at one time. Operations that exceed this limit are blocked. The default of List View Threshold is 5000 items. For SharePoint Online, the List View Threshold limit can't be changed.

We need to apply filters to get the displayed data under the List view Threshold of 5000 items. If there are more than 5000 items returned, the query is throttled.

Even when we create a filtered view based on column indexes, if we're over the List View Threshold, certain additional operations might still be blocked because they require accessing the entire list or library. These operations include the following: adding or deleting an index, creating a sort in the view definition; displaying a column total; and adding, updating, or deleting calculated fields.

As a workaround, you can use folders to organize, or use the Document Center site. Another solution, sync a library and work locally on your computer.
