I have a custom SP list with an Enhanced rich text column. The upload file option was available until the list was customized using "customize form" (infopath form). I saw a post said this feature will be lost once the form is customized, is that true? If it is, is there an alternative to have this back?

Yes, the feature will lose when you use InfoPath form. This is a known limitation for InfoPath form. 

Per my knowledge, there is not an OOB solution to have this feature back.

As a workaround, I suggest you to use the "list item attachment" function to upload a file for list items.
