When attempting to open the XAML Designer on a XAML file, I was getting the error "The Extender Provider failed to return an Extender". I tried several solutions, but now I am getting "The is no editor available"... "Make sure the application for the file type (.XAML) is installed. When I right click and use "Open with" and select either the XAML Designer or XAML Designer with Encoding I am told the editor can't open the file and I am told to use another editor.
