Hi, my issue is that Vista seems to be treating me as a Standard User. I cannot access User Accounts or System or many other functions including changing my desktop background of all things.

I checked that my account is in the Administrators group using the net user command in the cmd window. So I know I *should* be able to have full access. However, when I try to use functions such as those above, a window will instantaneously open and close without an opportunity to read or see any of it let alone interact with it.

I think this means the Administrator token isn't working and my account is being treated as a Standard User account. It's the only account on the computer except Guest and a seemingly hidden Administrator account that doesn't show up on the logon screen but shows under the net user command.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

From your description, it's hard to tell if this is related to UAC or not - the desktop background example muddies things, since that doesn't require admin.  Either way, it sounds like your system is in a (very) sorry state.

If you want to narrow it down further, try running cmd from the start menu, and then try running cmd from the start menu, but elevated (right click -> run as administrator).

In any case, you might want to call your pc manufacturer's support line if you're not comfortable trying to find the cause of your trouble yourself.
